INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

At Huron College we designed our programs to suit the needs and demands of world markets. We also offer several services and payment options to make your stay in Toronto a memorable and lifetime experience. In order to qualify for admission into Huron College, you will require

  • A minimum High School Diploma (12th Grade) or higher
  • A preferable TOEFL Score of 500 (PBT, paper based) or 170 (CBT, computer based); or IELTS overall score of 5.5, with no single test score below 5.0; or MELAB score of 65; or English studies at the advanced level (Not applicable to ESL programs and lower scores or acceptable to some of the programs. Please refer to individual program requirements for details)
  • An entrance assessment and interview may be required for mature students
  • Other pre-requisites may be required depending upon the program applied

For most of the programs you do not need to write an assessment test if you meet the programs minimum requirements and are proficient in English. Admission into some programs may require taking an entrance assessment and interview. Please contact the Course Counselor for program specific admission requirements.

The general requirements for International students to apply for a program are:

  • Photocopy of highest academic qualifications
  • Photocopy of bio page of passport
  • Photo copy of current study permit and visa (if applicable)
  • Completed ONLINE application form
  • One passport size photograph

Upon approval of the application, the applicant must pay the minimum tuition fee to obtain the Admission Letter which is required by the Canadian Government Embassy / Consulate to process your student visa application.

The Process


The college has four intakes in a year i.e. Jan, Apr, Jul and Oct. The application cut off date for each intake is one month before the class start date. International Students need to apply at least 3 months in advance to allow enough time to prepare all the documents required to submit the study permit application to the Canadian Embassy.

Once you choose the program you are interested in, follow the process below to complete your application.

1. The applicant has to fill and submit the application online by visiting us at http://www.huroncollege.ca/application.html
This is followed by 250 CAD application fee either by a draft payable to Huron College of Management, Technology and Health Care or wire transferred directly to the college's account.

2. Once we receive the application along with the application fee and the documents listed below, the admissions department will process and let you know if you are accepted into the program. Once accepted you will receive an offer letter and a login ID and Password.

3. Once you have the ID and Password you can log on to our ICAPS(Internet-based College Aadministration and Processing System) and monitor your progress from admission process on to the graduation stage in real time through the members log in area.

At each step you will receive an e-mail with further instructions or to inform you of your updated status.

The minimum fee of 25% of the total cost of the program applied and the documents listed below are required upon enrollment to issue the acceptance letter. The balance can be paid on the start date of the class.

1. A photocopy of passport and visa rejections (if any)
2. One passport size photo
3. A photocopy of all academic records

The acceptance letter and other relevant documents will be sent to the student upon the receipt of the minimum fee of the program applied. In case of visa rejection, Huron College refunds all fees except 250 which applies towards registration, application, processing, administration, and documentation fees.

The college admission department takes a minimum of seven business days after receiving all the documents to process your application and to issue an Initial Offer Letter. However it depends on the completeness and accuracy of your application forms and whether you have submitted all the requested documents and fees. The Study Permit process at the Canadian Embassy may vary between 3 weeks to 6 weeks depending on the country you are applying from and if you require a medical examination. Therefore ensure that your application for a study permit is complete and accurate and that you have submitted all requested documents along with your application. .

Payment Schedule

International students must pay a minimum fee of 25% of the total cost of the program applied to obtain an official Acceptance Letter. The balance of the course cost will be required at the time of course commencement

Fees can be paid by bank draft, money order, certified cheque or wire transfer to the college's bank account. All the payments should be made payable to Huron College of Management, Technology and Health Care.

Conditions and Refund Policy

  • All fee listed are quoted in CAD unless otherwise specified
  • All tuition fees and application fees must be paid in full on or before the beginning of the study session
  • All fees are non-transferable under any conditions
  • Fees are not refundable except under the following circumstances
  • The tuition fee does not include the cost of study material, exam fee, Certificate/Diploma, food, stay, transportation and additional expenses like medical insurance, extracurricular activities, etc

Other Conditions and Cancellations

  • If the student is sponsored by a corporation or funded by a government agency, the college will determine the payment plan with the sponsor or loan office
  • International students must pay a minimum of 25% of the total cost of the program to get an official acceptance letter. The rest is to be paid before or upon the commencement of the course.
  • A written request must be sent to our International Admissions department stating the reasons for withdrawal and the request must be received by the college within 21 days before the start of session. A charge will be withheld towards Registration, Application and Administration.
  • All fees deducting CAD 250 towards processing and handling are refundable to the applicant whose Student Visa is rejected upon provision of the following documents to the College:
    • Written letter requesting a refund signed by the applicant
    • Proof of a Visa rejection as issued by the Canadian Embassy or High Commission
    • All the original documents including all receipts issued by the College

PLEASE NOTE THAT

  • Non-attendance does not constitute withdrawal leading to refund
  • Fees paid for courseware includes shipping costs and are non-refundable
  • Exam fees and special services fees are non-refundable
  • Processing of refunds takes 30 days after receiving the written request
  • All programs are subject to sufficient enrollment and so may be cancelled or rescheduled or transferred

 Accommodation

We provide home stay or private accommodation to our students through our service providers. Home stay allows international students to live in a Canadian home as a member of the family. Students that live in home stay find that their English improves dramatically through conversation and daily involvement with their families. Home stay will provide you with a safe, clean and caring atmosphere during your stay. Your home stay family will help you to adjust to your exciting new lifestyle in Canada, introducing you to the neighborhood and transit system. We realize that this may be the first time you are traveling away from your home. It is our commitment and goal to provide you with a safe, secure and caring home away from home. The rates for home stay or private accommodation depends on the individual needs and requirements and there is a one time non-refundable administration fee of CAD 100

Airport Pickup

Students requiring airport pickup service must provide the college with the following information

Date and time of Arrival in Toronto

The transportation cost is approximately CAD 75 for pickups arranged by the college. You should provide the above information to the attention of Admissions Department via email at admin@huroncollege.ca or fax at 416 913 6444 at least 7 days before you fly.

Medical Insurance

Medical costs are very expensive in Canada and are not covered by the government here for international students, hence Huron College strongly advises all international students to have their health insurance coverage in place for the period of their study session. Our student advisor will assist you in the process at your own expense. Upon request we arrange medical insurance to our students through our service providers. The medical insurance would cost approximately between CAD 50 and CAD 65 per month and there is a one time non-refundable set up fee of CAD 50.

Immigration   

Overview

The new Immigration and Refugee Protection Act came into effect on June 28, 2002. Terminology changes in the new act include "Student Authorization is now called a "Study Permit"; "Employment Authorization" is now called a "Work Permit" and "Temporary Resident Visa" is now called "Visitors Visa". Student Permit

Students interested in Studying in Canada require a "Student Permit" if the duration of the program they wish to study is more than six months. Once a letter of acceptance and admission letter has been received, the student should start the process of obtaining a student permit by going to the nearest Canadian Embassy, High Commission or Canadian Consulate closest to the country they reside in. Obtaining a Student Permit can take up to several months depending on your country of origin.

You must provide the following documentation along with completed student visa application form while trying to obtain your Study Permit.

  • Processing fee
  • Valid passport
  • Letter of Aacceptance, Initial Offer Lletter and Fee Receipt from Huron College
  • Proof of funds to cover all your costs for your period of study in Canada
  • Police clearance certificate or Criminal check record
  • Medical clearance may be required

Work Opportunities for Foreign Students   

You must come to Canada with enough money to live and pay your bills while you are studying, without needing to work. In certain situations, you may be able to work while you are studying. Working will help you earn extra money and gain Canadian work experience. Do not work without being authorized to do so. If you do, you may be asked to leave Canada. Learn more about work permits.
